For better or worse, the video game industry is trending toward consolidation. Although this phenomenon gained strength and visibility in recent years thanks to the recent acquisitions by Microsoft, Sony, Embracer Group, and others, it has been happening for quite some time. In this regard, Electronic Arts is very satisfied with its acquisition of Respawn Entertainment.

EA is very happy with the purchase of Respawn Entertainment

During his participation in the Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Technology Conference on Wednesday, September 6th, EA CEO Andrew Wilson praised the work of the developer studio responsible for the Titanfall series, the Battle Royale game Apex Legends, and the Star Wars Jedi franchise.

"We don't do many acquisitions, but we've done a few. Of course, Respawn is maybe one of the most incredible acquisitions ever made in the industry. They are an awesome team, and they've created great value for us, for our shareholders, and certainly for these global gaming communities in Apex and the Jedi series," said the executive.

Andrew Wilson hinted that the studio is working on some very exciting new projects but refrained from revealing more details. "And you must imagine that there are other things happening at Respawn that we're very excited about that we're not going to talk about. But we're very excited about it because of the quality of that team," said EA's CEO.

As a reminder, Electronic Arts acquired Respawn Entertainment in 2017 for an approximate value of $455 million.

In May 2023, Vince Zampella, the head of the development studio, stated that Steve Fukuda, the director of the Titanfall series, is leading a "very small" team working on a completely original IP. Additionally, a new clue suggests that a third installment of Star Wars Jedi might be in development.

Finally, Respawn Entertainment has also begun development on 2 new Star Wars titles. The first is an FPS featuring Peter Hirschmann, co-creator of Medal of Honor. The second is a strategy title. So, the home of Apex Legends has its hands full.
