After days of rumors and much speculation, Xbox finally spoke about its business strategy. There's much to discuss, but what caught the most attention was the confirmation that some games from the company will no longer be exclusive and will become multiplatform.
Of course, many fans wonder how this move can benefit Xbox. In the 22-minute podcast, Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's gaming division, talked about the role the brand currently plays as one of the main publishers in the competition.
Phil Spencer talks about Xbox's multiplatform releases
Specifically, the American executive emphasizes that it is not the first time they have brought some of their games to other platforms and states that, thanks to the acquisition of Zenimax and Activision Blizzard, Xbox is one of the most important publishers on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
"In fact, realistically, if you look at the addition of Activision Blizzard and Zenimax, we are one of the biggest game publishers on PlayStation, and we are one of the biggest publishers on Nintendo Switch, especially when you add Minecraft to the equation. And now we are also one of the leading publishers on mobile platforms," stated Phil Spencer.
The Xbox executive assures that they do not want to step back from this strategy, as the goal is to create games that millions of people can love and play wherever they want.

In an additional interview with The Verge, Phil Spencer delved into the topic, reaffirmed his opinion, and reminded that it is not the first time they have released games in other ecosystems.
"Obviously, we are one of the biggest publishers on PlayStation and Nintendo right now, thinking about the game lineup of Activision Blizzard and Bethesda. So, we know what it means to ship games on Steam, PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox," commented the executive.
Phil Spencer recalls that they released Ori and the Will of the Wisps on Switch after the original release on Xbox, as well as Psychonauts 2, Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Legends on other consoles simultaneously. Although they have experience with multiplatform releases, they want to ensure that it is "good for the health of Xbox in the long run." For that reason, they will only bring 4 games to other platforms.
"Our goal would be that the communities around those titles grow and thrive (...) We'll see what happens when we take games that were launched on Xbox and PC and bring them to other consoles and closed platforms. We don't know," said the head of Microsoft Gaming.
