The PS5 exclusive developed by Guerrilla Games is now available for PC

With the goal of reaching new audiences, PlayStation began bringing its exclusives to PC. This move divided fan opinions, but it seems that Sony will still pursue the strategy. The latest effort is Horizon Forbidden West, which is finally available for computers. However, it was unable to match the success of its predecessor.

After many rumors, Sony confirmed in September 2023 that the popular PlayStation exclusive would come to PC. Shortly after, in January 2024, the official release date was confirmed: March 21st.

The wait is over, and fans can now enjoy Aloy's latest adventure through Steam and the Epic Games Store. However, despite being one of PlayStation's flagship titles, it failed to match the figures of the first installment.

Horizon Forbidden West is Sony's 7th Best PC Launch

At the moment, Horizon Forbidden West has a peak of 27,511 concurrent users on Valve's platform, according to SteamDB data. Although not a bad start, it fell behind Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, which achieved a record of 56,557 simultaneous players on its PC debut in August 2020.

This means that the sequel debuted with approximately 50% fewer players than the first installment. Although there is a possibility that the player count will significantly increase in the coming hours and over the weekend, it's undeniable that it had a worse start than the original title and other PlayStation exclusives that also made the leap to PC.

As highlighted by Game World Observer, at the moment, Horizon Forbidden West is the 7th best launch of Sony on Steam, meaning it significantly surpassed the releases of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. The top spot is held by Helldivers 2, the popular multiplayer from Arrowhead Game Studios.

These are Sony's best launches on Steam:

  • 1.- Helldivers 2
  • 2.- God of War
  • 3.- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
  • 4.- Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition
  • 5.- The Last of Us Part I

Now, why did Horizon Forbidden West fall behind on the list? Let's remember that on March 21st, Dragon’s Dogma 2, the highly anticipated RPG from Capcom, also debuted, which, despite the controversy, achieved a peak of over 200,000 simultaneous players on Steam.

But tell us, did you give Aloy's new adventure a chance? What did you think? Do you recommend it? Let us know in the comments.
