Capcom Joins the Trend of Charging $70 USD per Game

Take-Two Interactive and Electronic Arts were the first companies to express the desire to charge $70 USD for their launch games. Precisely, the current console generation has been characterized by this change, which seems to be here to stay, as another of the industrys largest companies will join the list.

Until now, Capcom had stayed out of the group of major companies offering their productions for $70 USD, but this is about to change. Today, the Japanese company carried out a detailed livestream of Dragons Dogma 2, its upcoming ambitious project, and confirmed its release date and cost.

What caught attention is that the standard edition will have a price of $69.99 USD both on consoles and PC (via Steam) when it becomes available on March 22, 2024.

Will Capcom charge $70 USD for new games from now on?

This new move by Capcom might take some by surprise, but few would be among them, as most saw it coming. The company had hinted that it would like to raise the price of its launch games, considering them "too low" and that an increase would be beneficial for the industry.

It is unknown whether Capcom will maintain this trend for every new game or if it will select cases taking into account various factors, such as the type of production (AAA or lower), duration, or whether it is exclusive to current-generation consoles and PC.
