Will the Controversial Days Gone Have a Sequel? Bend Studio Shares Bad News

Por Ulises Contreras el 28 de June de 2024

Days Gone was one of Sonys big bets for the previous generation of consoles; however, it failed to resonate with the audience and received mixed reviews. Its commercial performance was also far from brilliant, making the prospect of a sequel increasingly unlikely. Now, a member of Bend Studio has just put the final nail in the coffin.

In 2021, a report indicated that PlayStation refused to greenlight the development of the second installment of the franchise. Bend Studio has since moved on and is currently working on a new IP, which could be a game as a service.

Nevertheless, the most dedicated fans remain hopeful and expect a sequel to come sooner or later. They even created a petition and gathered thousands of signatures in an attempt to change Sonys mind. However, a member of the development team wanted to clear up any misunderstandings and shared some bad news about the continuation of Deacon St. Johns adventure.

"Its Time to Move On," Days Gone Will Not Have a Sequel

Before the May 2024 State of Play, Jeff Ross, former head of Bend Studio, confirmed that the sequel to Days Gone will never happen. However, the games co-director and writer, John Garvin, stated in June this year that "never say never," even mentioning that Sonys management could change their mind and ask him and Jeff Ross to return to work on the second installment.

In another post, John Garvin revealed that he worked on the sequel for weeks and even has a script and concept art. Although he said fans shouldnt expect any updates on a continuation, he mentioned that, at the very least, he would love to write a book or graphic novel to properly finish the story.

The creative also mentioned that there were plans for a trilogy, which excited fans. Naturally, his words caused a stir, and some began to believe the franchise could be revived. However, community manager Kevin McAllister quickly crushed those hopes.

John Garvin talked about the possibility of seeing a second installment of Days Gone

"I apologize to our Days Gone community for continually receiving false hopes and bad information from people seeking likes. Its not fair to you. We are currently working on a new IP, and when we have real news to share, it will come from our studio," commented the Bend Studio member.

In response to a user, Kevin McAllister said that the rumors come from former developers and emphasized that "its time to move on." Although the franchise garnered a passionate fanbase following its release on PlayStation and PC, Days Gone 2 seems almost impossible at this point.
