It was a short-lived adventure for Bravely Default Brilliant Lights, a mobile spin-off of the popular series born on Nintendo platforms, released only in Japan in early 2022 and never seeing the light of day on Western soil. As of February 28, 2023, Square Enix will permanently shut down the game's servers, which will no longer be accessible to users.

Goodbye to a promising title

The life cycle of Bravely Default Brilliant Lights will last little more than a year without ever achieving great success in its homeland. According to Square Enix's own words, the reasons behind the end of support for the work lies in the fact that, after careful evaluations, the Japanese company realized that it could no longer guarantee a satisfactory service in the long term, which is why the decision was made to pull the plug.

The final chapter of Brilliant Lights' story and its last events will all be published before the server shutdown next February. But the end of the online version does not appear to be the end of the entire project. Square Enix plans to publish an offline version of the title that would allow access to the previously published content and stories, promising more details in the future.

In case you missed it: Activision: making Call of Duty exclusive would be disastrous for Xbox.

This is not the only Square Enix-branded game that will say goodbye to players in early 2023: the servers of Babylon's Fall will close on February 28, 2023, the same day as the Bravely Default spin-off.
