Square Enix strongly advises all Final Fantasy 14 players to change their account passwords after the MMORPG community's personal information was compromised in a hacking attack.
Lodestone, the news' publisher, stated on its official Final Fantasy 14 community site that if the number of unauthorized access attempts continues to rise, it may be forced to initiate a password reset for all Square Enix accounts.
The Square Enix Account Management System, according to the Japanese company, has been the target of a hacker attack. Malicious attackers are attempting to gain access to the system by combining email addresses and passwords obtained illegally from the online services of other unspecified companies.
The most vulnerable players are those who use the same email and password combinations to access more than one online platform. If you fall into this category (or even if you don't, security is always a good thing), we recommend that you reset your Square Enix account password right away using the dedicated official page.

Your new password should be sufficiently complex and distinct from those used for other online services. Meanwhile, Square Enix has confirmed that it is working to mitigate the effects of the attack by imposing restrictions on accounts that have allegedly already been compromised by the hackers.
