Will Disney Make a Kingdom Hearts Movie After the Anime? Executive Excites Sora and Mickey Mouse Fans with His Statements
Jared Bush spoke about the Square Enix franchise and its possible arrival on the big screen.

After a lengthy hiatus, the Kingdom Hearts franchise is coming back with both an anime adaptation and a new video game. At D23, Disney and Square Enix offered fans a preview of what lies ahead but it seems that even more surprises may be in store.
Long celebrated for its imaginative fusion of original characters and beloved Disney properties, the Square Enix RPG saga has always carried immense cinematic potential. For years, audiences have dreamed of seeing Sora, Mickey Mouse, Donald, and Goofy embark on a big-screen adventure, yet such a project has never come to fruition.
However, Jared Bush, chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, was recently asked about the likelihood of a Kingdom Hearts film, and his response has reignited hope among the fanbase.
Disney Doesn’t Rule Out the Possibility of Kingdom Hearts Movie in the Future
Disney is home to some of the most accomplished animation studios in the West, and nearly every release commands the attention of a global audience. Given that track record, it’s no surprise that many Kingdom Hearts fans are holding out hope for a feature film, ideally one developed by Pixar in partnership with Square Enix.
In the meantime, Sora is set to return in Kingdom Hearts IV, which is currently slated for a late 2027 release. The game promises fresh adventures across new Disney-inspired worlds. Beyond that, Disney is also developing an animated series based on the franchise, working closely with Tetsuya Nomura, one of Square Enix’s most visionary creators.
Even with these two major projects on the horizon, the dream of a Kingdom Hearts movie persists among players. Jared Bush has acknowledged that such a film isn’t out of the question, though he’s also cautioned fans against getting their hopes up too soon.
While Bush stopped short of confirming any active development, he emphasized that Disney remains highly attuned to audience passions, something that frequently guides the studio’s future slate. “Nothing is impossible,” he told IGN (via GameSpot), a statement that quickly sent ripples of excitement through the community.
“I’m always excited to hear what people are passionate about. And I’d say that we have a very bright future of new projects coming out — different ways of putting material out into the world. So I would just say, nothing is impossible,” he said.

Kingdom Hearts Will Have Its Own Anime
For the time being, Disney and Square Enix have officially confirmed only an animated series, which will debut on Disney+ and Disney Channel. The show will feature an original storyline penned by Tetsuya Nomura.
The series aims to expand the Kingdom Hearts universe, introducing its rich world to newcomers while offering longtime fans a fresh perspective. The entertainment giant has described the production as a “tribute to the characters that have won the hearts of millions of fans around the world.”
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, reinforced that the series will honor both the essence of the games and the signature Disney magic, “while offering fans a completely new way to experience the world they love so much.”
