After a prolonged hiatus, Dragon Ball Super is set to return in 2026 with a remake that revisits the series’ opening sagas through improved animation and refined storytelling. While there are very few specific details that we know, key questions surrounding the premiere date and total episode count are a mystery.

Now, according to a recent leak from a well-known figure in the Dragon Ball community, the upcoming reboot will feature a notably limited episode number The same source also casts doubt on whether the later arcs will be readapted.

Remake Dragon Ball Super 20 episodios

Report Suggests 20-Episode Run, Mirroring Dragon Ball Daima

Few fans would argue that the initial run of Dragon Ball Super was without flaws. During its early production, the series struggled with inconsistent animation quality and uneven pacing, issues that only began to resolve during the highly praised Tournament of Power arc.

With that history in mind, anticipation is running high for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, the working title for this remake project, which is currently slated for a fall 2026 release.

According to insider Geekdom101, the new series will confine itself to the first three story arcs: Battle of Gods, Resurrection of Frieza, and the Champa Tournament. In total, the remake is said to consist of just 20 episodes. This is a stark contrast to the 46 episodes the original required to cover the same material.

Breaking down the reported distribution, the Battle of Gods arc would receive 6 episodes, Resurrection of Frieza would span 7, and the Champa Tournament would also be 7.

As such, this is the episode breakdown of the Dragon Ball Super remake:

  • Battle of Gods — 6 episodes
  • Resurrection of Frieza — 7 episodes
  • Champa Tournament — 7 episodes

While other sources have offered slightly different breakdowns, the consensus across multiple leaks points firmly toward a 20-episode total. This would likely force the studio to trim most filler content, though it remains unclear whether new scenes adapted exclusively from Toyotaro’s manga will be incorporated.

It is worth noting that Dragon Ball Daima, which takes place between DBZ and DBS, also told its complete story within 20 episodes.

An earlier report from April 2026 similarly pointed to a 20-episode count, adding that Toei has no current plans to remake the Black Goku or Tournament of Power arcs. This information, however, is still unconfirmed.

Dragon Ball Super Beerus estreno octubre

New Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Info Is Coming Soon

Just weeks ago, it was announced that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus would have a presence at New York Comic-Con this fall, though initial details were limited to merchandise displays and gaming showcases.

It was unclear whether the anime itself would receive a dedicated presentation until August 19, 2026, when Toei Animation confirmed that a special panel will take place on October 8 at 12:00 PM on the Empire Stage.

This development lends fresh weight to earlier rumors that the remake could premiere sometime in October, with many now expecting the debut to occur either shortly before or immediately following the NYCC event.

Should the 20-episode count prove accurate, it opens the door for a potential follow-up project: Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, which would adapt the Moro saga, to arrive as early as 2027. However, internal documents reportedly suggest that such a release may be pushed back to 2028 or later.

In the meantime, Toyotaro, Toriyama’s protégé and current manga artist, has kept fans engaged by releasing a special illustration that, for the first time in franchise history, reveals the appearance of Vegeta’s mother. The reveal has sparked renewed hope among fans that the character might play a role in any future continuations.

What do you think? Are you excited about the anime coming back? Would you like to see it free of filler or would you rather have the studio adapt the entire story? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
