Surprise! Avatar: The Last Airbender will have 3 new animated movies

Creatives from the original series will work on Nickelodeon and Paramount productions

Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the most popular, fun, and loved animated series. We know that it is a series that marked an entire generation and that many grew up with it by watching the adventures of Avatar Aang with his companions to restore balance to the world.

It has been many years since its release, and despite getting another series that was The Legend of Korra, many fans are still nostalgic for all the history and iconic characters that went with Aang.

Typically, the same fans constantly ask for more Avatar content, be it a new series with another successor avatar or more content about the series already released. Now, Nickelodeon has finally gotten around to reviving the franchise.

The company revealed a partnership with Paramount to produce and distribute three new Avatar: The Last Airbender films. And I know you think you're worried that a new movie failed like live-action was (remember that no one should even mention it). Still, in this case, the films will be animated, and important creatives from the original series will work on them so that you can rest easy.

AVATAR: THE LEGEND OF AANG RETURNS!

Paramount and Nickelodeon confirmed that the productions would be in charge of Avatar Studio, a division Nickelodeon Animation presented at the beginning of last year. We also know that they will have the participation of essential creatives. Among them are Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino, creators of the franchise.

In addition, Eric Coleman, the series' original executive producer, will also be part of the team. For now, we know that the first film will be directed by Lauren Montgomery, a producer, and writer who worked mostly on the Book 3 episodes of the cartoon and much of The Legend of Korra.

“As original creators, Mike and Bryan expand the Avatar universe with us, we're keeping it all in the family with Lauren, who will bring the same beautiful and dedicated work she did on the original series to her new directing roles in the upcoming series, movie,” said Ramsey Naito, president of animation and development at Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation.

Latifa Ouaou, executive vice president of films for both companies, has been confirmed to oversee the first film in collaboration with Jason McConnell, vice president of animation for Nickelodeon Animation and Paramount Animation.

For now, no details have been revealed about the new productions' release dates or stories, but everything indicates that they will be independent films and not a trilogy.
