Nintendo Switch surpasses 111 million consoles sold
By Alejandro Díaz de León onBut also reports sales decline

Nintendo announced in its most recent financial report that the Nintendo Switch reached 111.08 million consoles sold since its launch in March 2017. In the first fiscal quarter, from April 1 to June 30, 2022, the hybrid console sold a total of 3.43 million consoles.
Unfortunately, sales are 22.9% lower than in the same period last year. However, the company claims that this happens due to a shortage of semiconductors, which causes a slowdown in the console's production, whose demand remains stable in all regions.
The continuing shortage of semiconductors used to make chips is one of the reasons for the decline in Switch console sales.
Despite this, Nintendo maintains its sales projections for the Switch this year. This fiscal year, the company hopes to sell 21 million copies. It will release games such as Splatoon 3, Bayonetta 3, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet later this year.
On the other hand, the data shows that the Nintendo Switch, which has already surpassed the total sales of the Wii, could exceed the PlayStation 4, which sold 117 million consoles in March of this year.
It will have an easier time catching up to Game Boy sales, which said goodbye to gamers after selling 118.69 million handheld consoles.

The sales figures for Nintendo games were also updated, revealing that Nintendo Switch Sports debuted with 4.84 million units sold, while Mario Strikers: Battle League sold 1.91 million. Meanwhile, Kirby and the Forgotten Land (which came out at the end of March) has sold 1.88 million more copies in the quarter, bringing its total to 4.53 million.
As of June 30, 2022, Nintendo Switch had sold 863.59 million titles, with the following games being the best sellers:
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 46.82m
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 39.38m
