The clash regarding Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard continues, with a new set of statements shared by the Redmond giant with relevant authorities.
In a lengthy written rebuttal sent to the UK CMA, Microsoft turns the spotlight on Activision Blizzard's relationship with video game subscription plans. "Without the acquisition," it reads, "Activision's content will not be available in any subscription program. Activision does not prominently publish its games (including Call of Duty) in any subscription service, and there is no evidence that this approach will change in the near future."
Microsoft insists on this deal
Redmond recalls how only a few Activision titles have landed on PlayStation Plus over time. In these cases, moreover, we were talking about games already quite dated and offered to the public for a limited time. "Activision," Microsoft continues, "has never released any new content in any subscription and has no plans to do so.
Based on these considerations, Microsoft rules out the possibility that the Activision Blizzard acquisition will adversely affect subscription models competing with Xbox Game Pass. In any case, Redmond argues, the publisher's titles would not, in fact, land within the PlayStation Plus catalog anyway.
In case you missed it: Xbox Game Pass 'not a replacement for traditional game purchases.'
Thus, in the face of Sony's grievances over its acquisition of Activision, the legal confrontation between Microsoft and the anti-trust authorities continues.
