The irruption of artificial intelligence tools has attracted the attention of different sectors and, at this moment, proposals of this type are living a kind of honeymoon in the market.
The first step is to show what can be done with this type of software and platforms, in some cases replacing the human being. This generated fear that the dystopian future in which machines replace us is near, but nobody expected that the first ones at risk would be the top executives.
A report from Business Insider (via The Gamer) shared details about the decision made by the Chinese gaming company NetDragon Websoft, which is now run by artificial intelligence. According to the information, last August the company reported that it would appoint as CEO an AI named Tang Yu, who would take charge of the Fujian NetDragon Websoft division.
The Chinese company's justification for making such a surprising move was the idea that an AI would be more efficient with decision-making, would have better judgment in dealing with risky situations, and would supposedly ensure a fair working environment for employees.
Within months of that announcement and AI Tang Yu taking over as CEO, NetDragon Websoft's stock has been up 10%, plus it was able to deal with a downturn in the fall of last year and has been on an upward path from there. Its case is beginning to be of general interest to the financial market, especially given recent mentions that artificial intelligence could better execute the CEO position.
A company statement signed by its president, Dejian Liu, shows that they are serious about this decision with the future already in mind: "We believe AI is the future of corporate management, and our appointment of Ms. Tang Yu represents our commitment to truly embrace the use of AI to transform the way we operate our business and ultimately drive our future strategic growth"

NetDragon Websoft is known in the Asian gaming world for online multiplayer games such as Eudemons Online, Heroes Evolved, and Conquer Online and is the current owner of Neopets. Its decision on having an AI as the CEO could be revolutionary for other companies, so we will probably see this happen more often than expected in the next few years.
