Now that the purchase of Activision Blizzard has put the issue of exclusivity on the table, Square Enix and PlayStation's agreements have come to light, which maintain, for example, games such as Final Fantasy VII Remake, the infamous Forspoken, and the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI as exclusives for Sony consoles and in certain cases also come to PC, but nothing else. Recently, the company responsible for the JRPG was questioned about it and the answer yielded important information.

During a question-and-answer meeting with investors (via Tweak Town) -and in the midst of an internal crisis due to the poor results of the current releases- Square Enix's present and future in terms of platform publishing strategies was questioned.

In this regard, the Japanese company responded that the multiplatform strategy will not be modified and will continue as is. This means that they will continue with the exclusivity agreements with PlayStation, with releases on Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony consoles as appropriate and in some cases with releases that also include PC. It is worth remembering that Octopath Traveler II is not available on Xbox.

This news makes it inevitable to look back to the past to remember that in 2019 and after a series of meetings between Phil Spencer and Japanese publishers and developers, the Microsoft brand announced with great enthusiasm the arrival of several Final Fantasy installments to Xbox Game Pass and at that time it was thought that Xbox and Square Enix would have a closer relationship.

However, the passage of time showed that things have changed and although many of the Japanese company's games are still considered for Xbox, it is a fact that some heavyweights will remain on PlayStation.

In case you missed it: Resident Evil 4 Remake debuts an official anime and you can now enjoy it for free

This news may be a bucket of cold water for Final Fantasy fans who were waiting for the remake of the seventh installment and the new release on Xbox, but everything indicates that they will remain as PlayStation console exclusives, and as an alternative option we also have the PC.

Do you think Square Enix will ever allow their titles to be available on all platforms? Let us know in the comments!
