Sony once again bet on virtual reality with the PlayStation VR2; however, all indications are that the device for PlayStation 5 has not come close to meeting expectations. According to a recent report, the company recently paused production of its hardware due to low sales.

According to Bloomberg, PlayStation VR2 sales and shipments have gradually declined each quarter. Because of this, Sony reportedly made the decision to halt production of the virtual reality device for now.

It is claimed that the company currently has a surplus stock of the headset, which has recorded lower-than-expected sales. It is also specified that its production has been completely halted. The news is alarming, as PlayStation VR2 debuted in February 2023, so it has been just over a year since its arrival in stores.

On the other hand, PlayStation broke its promise to support it and release major titles for the device. All indications are that the company has a contingency plan to partially fix this stumble. It recently announced that PlayStation VR2 will have PC support. With this, it seeks to boost its use and, of course, its sales.

However, it is not clear if it will be enough to pick up the commercial pace, as there is already a wide range of virtual reality devices in the market. We know that PlayStation VR2 had a better debut than its predecessor, but things have gradually changed and the outlook is not positive.
