Apple will allow emulators in the App Store; iPhone and iPad users will be able to play retro games

The emulation topic has never ceased to be controversial due to all its implications. Years ago, Apple took a clear stance and decided to prohibit the arrival of video game emulators to the App Store. For this reason, iPhone and iPad users lack officially distributed applications that fulfill this function.
Things are about to change, as the company decided to ease its emulation restrictions. This will make it possible for various applications to run older games to reach its store and, therefore, be enjoyed on its devices. Of course, Apple will continue to keep a close eye on the situation, as it wants to avoid bad practices.
Apple will allow emulators to be distributed on the App Store

Through a statement, Apple confirmed that emulators will have open doors in the App Store and will be able to offer games. This implies that applications for Android mobile devices could arrive sooner or later to the company's ecosystem.
Apple assured that emulators will be able to be offered worldwide as long as developers comply with the laws. Of course, the company will not allow pirated titles to be offered through the apps.
Previously, iPhone and iPad users had unofficial alternatives to enjoy emulators, such as unlocking their devices or visiting third-party sites that offered some form of emulation. Official distribution of such applications through the App Store is expected to begin soon.
"Retro game console emulator apps can offer to download games. You are responsible for all such software offered in your app, including ensuring that such software complies with these Guidelines and all applicable laws," Apple explained.
