While Everyone Fears GTA VI, This Popular Indie Will Compete and Launch on the Same Day Rockstar Games Releases Its Long-Awaited Game
November 19 will be a special day for fans of both franchises

Grand Theft Auto VI is the most anticipated game of the decade, so it comes as no surprise that no other title wants to debut anywhere near its release date. In fact, Rockstar Games’ upcoming blockbuster has already caused a wave of delays across the industry, as studios of all sizes are scrambling to flee the month of November to avoid being overshadowed.
The number of releases currently scheduled for that month can still be counted on one hand, since it is widely accepted that GTA VI will arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. Yet, while every other publisher is running from that date, one popular indie game has made the decision to compete head-on with Rockstar’s highly anticipated title, scheduling its next major release for the very same day.
GTA VI Has Competition That Will Debut on the Very Same Day
After more than a decade of waiting, GTA VI will finally debut at the end of this year amid enormous expectations. Without a doubt, the title will become the most popular game in the coming months, and players will likely still be busy well into 2027 discovering every last detail of its world. For that reason, it makes sense that no developer wants to release their upcoming games in November, as they will inevitably be eclipsed by the greatness of GTA VI.
Currently, there are already several titles scheduled for November, including Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered, Barbie Rewind, and Crymelight, but all of them are debuting early in the month. Unexpectedly, however, one successful indie has challenged GTA VI directly, choosing to release its next major update on November 19.
That indie is The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+, a title created by Edward McMullen and distributed by Nicalis. For those unfamiliar, it stands as one of the most successful indie games of recent decades, having remained actively played and consistently updated since its original release back in 2011.
This week, Nicalis officially announced The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+ Online, a version that will bring the full game experience with online multiplayer to consoles for the very first time. This new iteration is set to arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch 2 on the exact same day that GTA VI makes its debut.
In fact, the indie will go head-to-head with Rockstar’s game even in retail stores, as it will receive a physical edition specifically for Nintendo’s hybrid console. This announcement did not go unnoticed by fans of The Binding of Isaac, nor by the broader gaming community, due to the connection to the GTA VI release date.

Players React to Announcement and Celebrate Indie Game’s Courage
The shared release date generated all kinds of opinions, with some players taking the opportunity to acknowledge Nicalis’s courage in standing up to Rockstar Games at the end of 2026.
There were also comments claiming that The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+ Online will prove to be a more entertaining release than GTA VI, a title that some players described as “overrated.” In fact, a number of people stated that they will spend their afternoon on November 19 enjoying the indie, which they already consider their personal Game of the Year.
“GTA VI’s November 19 release is the date every publisher is avoiding. The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+ Online just picked it anyway. A fearless indie,” wrote one player in reaction to the announcement.
