Embracer Group is already thinking “decades ahead” with The Lord of the Rings IP
By Frida Salazar onDecades of games and media then?

Embracer Group's shopping spree in the middle of the year will be worth every penny spent or at least that is what the company’s CEO Lars Wingefors thinks. According to a recent interview with EDGE magazine they have big plans for the Lord of the Rings IP.
If you weren’t aware the company acquired Middle-earth Enterprises, which owns and oversees the intellectual property catalogue for everything LOTR; films, video games, board games, merchandise, theatrical plays, you name it. Actually, the company announced a while ago plans to create new films based on characters such as Gandalf, Aragorn, Gollum, Galadriel, and Éowyn.
Making the most of this acquisition
As we were saying, Wingefors is thinking to maximize the potential of the brand by taking the long-term view with the IP and thinking “decades ahead”, pushing it to its fullest potential.
“We wouldn’t acquire the brand of Lord of the Rings if we were just thinking to maximise that potential over the coming year, you need to think decades ahead. And that’s how we will continue to think about this.”
Sadly he didn’t say more about their plans but we are pretty sure that one of their first strategies will go directly into the video game field, taking into account the incredible amount of studios that Embracer already owns.
