Xbox fans are thrilled, as Gears of War: E-Day looks like the game they've been waiting for years. The new entry will be a prequel, meaning The Coalition will leave the franchise's future for later. Despite this, we know the company already had ideas for Gears 6.

Rod Fergusson reveals ideas for Gears 6

In a discussion with IGN members, Rod Fergusson was asked about the franchise's future and what plans were in place while he was part of The Coalition. The creative surprised fans by revealing that its future lay beyond the planet Sera.
Fergusson explained that his plan was to take humanity away from the iconic setting to explore more of the series' universe. Gears 5 had already hinted at this possibility with the space technology shown in some sections.
He also mentioned the ending of Gears 5 and a plot point that’s considered a spoiler. For that reason, we’ll only say that The Coalition had not decided how to handle the situation and determine the fate of one of the protagonists.
Unfortunately, Fergusson didn’t share further details. No longer being part of the company, it’s a mystery whether The Coalition will follow this path for Gears 6 or change direction after Gears of War: E-Day.
Before the project was announced, various reports suggested that the new Gears would adopt an open-world approach and be a visual powerhouse showcasing the full potential of Xbox Series X|S. We’ll have to wait to learn more about Gears of War: E-Day and the future of the series.
