Back in September Google surprised us after announcing that its game streaming service, Google Stadia will be shut down next year. Of course, this didn’t sit well with the few users of the service who were very concerned about all their purchases and game progress.
While the developers have been resolving the progress part, Google was yet to make a statement on the refunds and finally, yesterday they updated their Stadia FAQ with all this info.
In case you missed it: Google has already closed the STADIA store; no longer supports purchases or new games
While they have made clear that their FAQ will be updated constantly the information released may help users with the current refund process.
To begin with, starting November 9, 2022, Stadia will attempt to automatically process refunds for all purchases of games, add-on content and subscription fees other than Stadia Pro made through the Stadia Store.
Of course, this will not take a couple of hours so, they ask users for patience as they work through each transaction and ask people to refrain from contacting Customer Support as they will not be able to expedite your refund. Obviously, as we were saying this refund process will take time but they have put January 18, 2023, the shutting down date as their refund deadline.
Help!
Ok, probably there are thousands of scenarios where may be an issue to process your refund. Don’t worry, Google seems to have thought about all of them.
First, there is a chance that Google is unable to issue your refund to the original form of payment, in that case, they will email you the instructions to set a new refund method at the Google account used to make the purchase. On the other hand, there is a chance that you were so angry that you deleted your Google account, here they will still attempt to automatically refund the transaction to the original form of payment but if that is not longer available you will have to contact Stadia Customer Service and provide the email of the deleted account, your last transaction date, and your last transaction amount.
In case your particular case is not resumed here please check the FAQ here.
