During this morning's WWDC23 event, Apple confirmed several new developments, including new Macbooks, gaming news, and their augmented reality headset. However, the company also talked about the new version of iOS, which will not be available on some very popular iPhone models.
Apple confirmed that iOS 17 is only coming to iPhone models that have the A12 Bionic chip or higher. In other words, the operating system will not be available on iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X, nor any earlier models.
It should be noted, however, that users of iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and the second-generation iPhone SE will have access to some iOS 17 features. These include StandBy screen, improved autocorrect, and voice note transcriptions.
But what about the iPad? The following models will be compatible with iOS 17:
- iPad (6th generation and later)
- iPad mini (5th generation and later)
- iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
- iPad Pro 12.9" (2nd generation and later)
- iPad Pro 10.5"
- iPad Pro 11" (1st generation and later)
iOS 17 will arrive at some point in the fall.
And you, will you be able to update your phone to iOS 17? Let us know in the comments.
