Is System Shock 3 still in development? Nightdive Studios talks about it
By Alejandro Díaz de León onThe studio's CEO says that it is now up to Tencent to decide the future of the series

Stephen Kick, the CEO of Nightdive Studios currently working on the System Shock remake, spoke about System Shock 3, which has been missing for two years, explaining that the fate of the game, as well as potentially the next chapters in the series, is in the hands of Tencent.
System Shock 3 was officially announced back in 2015 by OtherSide Entertainment. In 2020 the studio sold the rights to the sequel to Tencent and since then the game has completely disappeared from the radar, a sign that the project has probably been canceled, as Warren Spector suggested in an interview in March, among other things.
According to the words of Nightdive's CEO, only Tencent can currently decide whether or not to make a third chapter. of the iconic saga.
“When we originally acquired the rights to the franchise, we licensed the rights for the third game to Warren and Paul [Neurath] at Otherside. They then subsequently sold their rights to Tencent,” Kick told to VGC.
“So Tencent currently has the rights to the third game, and we have the rights to do the remake of the first game and potentially a remake of the second game. That’s pretty much where it stands right now.”

Kick added that Tencent not only holds the rights for System Shock 3 but also potentially for a fourth and fifth game.
"I think technically they could also do a System Shock 4 and 5, but they would have to release the third chapter first. So, we'll see."
