More trouble for PlayStation: Layoffs reported at Bungie, the studio behind Destiny
By Daniel Laguna onSony acquired the prestigious studio in 2022 for $3.6 billion

Various PlayStation studios have been affected by layoffs in recent weeks. Unfortunately for the company and its teams, this streak of bad news is not over yet, as layoffs are now reported at Bungie, the studio behind Destiny.
Jason Schreier, a journalist from Bloomberg and one of the industry's most reliable sources, reported that Bungie will experience layoffs. At the time of writing, there are no specific details, so it's unclear how many people will lose their jobs.
According to the details, Pete Parsons, the studio's CEO, sent an email this morning to inform employees of an important meeting. It is expected that this meeting will address the upcoming layoffs.
"Bungie, the developer of Destiny 2, is the latest PlayStation studio to face layoffs. The full extent is still unclear, but CEO Pete Parsons sent an email to the company this morning to say they'll have a team meeting today to talk about 'some news coming out of Bungie today' while informing staff," Schreier reported.

What will happen to Bungie and its projects?
In case you don't remember, Sony paid $3.6 billion to acquire Bungie in 2022. Since then, the studio has been working to drive the brand's strategy focused on games as a service. Additionally, we know that they are still working on Destiny 2 and are preparing the return of Marathon with a new installment.
The issue is that PlayStation's plan to enter the games as a service market has generated problems and, apparently, even internal disputes. Various sources claim that this project is what has led to the layoffs and the current crisis at the company.
It is expected that the layoffs will have a lesser impact on Bungie; however, it's unclear how they will affect the development of their games and what will happen to their role in the games as a service strategy.
