PS5 Price Increase Hits the U.S. Starting Tomorrow
By Pablo Hierro onThe PS5 faces a price bump, despite closing in on its fifth year.

The days when console prices steadily dropped as the years went by are over. Today’s economic landscape has reshaped the industry, pushing companies to raise hardware prices even years after launch. And for PlayStation fans, there’s bad news: Sony just announced a price hike for every PS5 model currently on sale.
In a statement published on the official PlayStation Blog, Sony explained that the decision comes down to tough economic conditions:
“Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles.”
So, starting tomorrow, August 21, 2025, U.S. prices for the PS5 lineup will look like this:
- PlayStation 5 – $549.99 USD
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99 USD
- PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99 USD
What About Mexico and Latin America?
No official adjustments have been announced for Latin America, but analysts have been signaling for months that this increase would eventually ripple outward. Since the U.S. serves as the main distribution hub for PS5 consoles heading into Mexico, Central America, and South America, it’s likely only a matter of time before the increase hits there too.
Earlier this year, both PS5 consoles and game prices rose in several countries, alongside a bump in the cost of PlayStation Plus.
That recalibration has drawn scrutiny in Mexico. Consumer watchdog PROFECO recently flagged Sony for listing PS Store prices exclusively in U.S. dollars, reminding the company that any product sold legally in the country must display its price in pesos (including taxes and fees) from the very first view.
