Red Dead Redemption Online had a difficult time, it almost feel like the game was dying slowly and sadly that is exactly what happened. After Rockstar’s disinterest in the online multiplayer and a year without any substantial new content, we saw this coming.

Actually, the fans campaigned trying to catch Rockstar’s attention, which at the beginning worked… unfortunately even when the company acknowledged and promised to work on something at the end of the day plans changed.

Last week confirmed that the western's online mode will no longer receive new content. There will still be minor updates and the servers will remain active.

For a good part of the community, this is the last nail in the coffin and some considers the game officially dead.

Nothing like holding a funeral to make it to the headlines

Even before Rockstar Games announced the bad news, the community organized a mock funeral to say goodbye to the multiplayer title. The themed event took place today, and there was certainly a mournful atmosphere in the wasteland.

Earlier today dozens of players gathered in the video game's graveyards to mingle, have virtual drinks, take pictures, remember good times and, of course, lament the tragic fate of the online mode.

As you may know now, Rockstar Games abandoned the online western in favour of the new instalment of Grand Theft Auto.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 5.
