Starfield: Bugs Are a Necessary Evil to Deliver Such an Experience, Says Bethesda
By Pedro Pérez Cesari onThe game would be very different if Bethesda did something much less daring

i]Starfield has already debuted in early access and, like other games from Bethesda Game Studios, it launched with several bugs. This has garnered criticism, but Bethesda believes that these kinds of errors are a necessary evil to deliver the type of experience they are aiming for.
Recently, Pete Hines, Vice President of Bethesda Softworks, had an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. There, he discussed the release of Starfield and was questioned about the fact that its launch came with some bugs.
According to Hines, bugs are a part of the Starfield experience. In other words, creating such an ambitious game carries the risk of debuting with some bugs that slipped through the quality control process. Thus, they could have made a game with fewer errors, but also less freedom, but they chose to attempt something groundbreaking.
"We embrace the chaos. We could make a safer game, with fewer bugs and fewer risks if we wanted to. But what we're trying to do is give the player freedom. Yes, there are going to be some little things here and there where your companion might get a little too close to you sometimes, but the freedom you have and the things that happen because of it, we love it and we absolutely accept it. Are there bugs? Sure. But do they take away from the experience? Or do you have a consistent and fun game that you can't stop playing and experiencing?" said Hines.
So far, there have been some complaints about various bugs in Starfield. However, the reality is that the space game seems to have debuted in a fairly stable state. Additionally, it's worth noting that it will likely receive more updates that will make it a much smoother experience.
