A few years ago, there was a resurgence of 3D platformers, a genre forgotten in recent gaming history, and one of the leading studios in that trend was Toys for Bob. The remake of the Crash Bandicoot trilogy performed well, leading to a fourth installment. However, Activision's decisions made it seem like it didn't fare well, but today the opposite was confirmed.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time achieved million-dollar sales
According to a report from Insider-Gaming, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time sold over 5 million copies, a very good figure for a 3D platformer in these times. This was revealed by Toby Schadt, design director, who shared the data on his LinkedIn profile, confirming that the result of this title was good in the market beyond Activision's demands, a company that was then the owner of Toys for Bob and that after this title sent the studio to work on Call of Duty.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, so its availability on all platforms played in its favor.
What does the future hold for Toys for Bob?
Toys for Bob also worked on the remake of the original Spyro trilogy and now that they have gained independence as a studio, it is rumored that their next project, in collaboration with Microsoft, will be the fourth installment of this franchise.
Likewise, it is expected that the studio will eventually return to Crash Bandicoot as their work with platformers stood out among fans.
Speaking of these franchises, there is interesting information as a clue indicates that Spyro Reignited Trilogy will soon arrive on Xbox Game Pass, being the next game from Activision to join the service following Microsoft's acquisition.
