A group of vtubers broadcasted their Splatoon 3 gameplay, as any vtuber would, but the splattered ink displayed AV (adult videos) instead. They made AV appear by setting the ink transparency to zero and then showing an AV video underneath. Nintendo didn’t take long to respond and take down the videos, although some of them are still roaming around.

The video quickly went viral in Japan and, ultimately, arrived on the west side of the world.

The vtubing group Sinsogumi, responsible for the stream, issued an apology. One of the vtubers accountable for the adult content confessed that this unexpected “surprise” was part of a competition: whichever side got banned from YouTube would lose. The vtubing group’s leader, Ikinone Tomeru, uploaded a video apology for the stream. But the post became useless in a couple of days because the account no longer exists.

According to Kotaku, several vtubers who participated in the “Splatoon AV” match have had their accounts banned. YouTube also recently deleted Ikinone Tomeru and Kikaze Kimono’s accounts for “multiple or severe violations of YouTube’s policy on nudity or sexual content.” And Sigure’s channel had been deleted during the initial not-safe-for-work stream.

Nintendo indirectly responded to the incident with the following statement on its official Japanese account: “Use that violates public order and morals, acts that intentionally mislead the rules of the game, acts that significantly damage the value of the game or characters and the world, and acts that encourage or take advantage of them will be deleted or legally enforced.”
