Travis Day, designer of World of Warcraft and Diablo III, passes away

A terrible loss for the industry

The video game industry is filled with incredible talent, that was the case for Travis Day an amazing video game designer who was widely known for his participation in World of Warcraft, Diablo III, and most recently in the free-to-play RPG Dauntless.

Sadly, Travis passed away this week at the age of 41. His sister Rachel Day announced the sad news on her social networks, without detailing the causes of death taking to surprise the whole community and colleagues.

A person with unmeasurable talent

When Travis joined Blizzard, he held the position of customer service representative. He then moved into quality assurance and later became a game designer. He was involved in the development of such notable titles as World of Warcraft and Diablo III.

He was also part of the team that worked on several expansions for both titles. After 13 years of incredible work, Travis left Blizzard in 2018 to take a new step in his career as part of the Phoenix Labs studio. There he served as a senior designer for Dauntless a free-to-play action role-playing video game originally released on 2019. We also know that for a time he worked at Lightspeed LA, a studio owned by Tencent where he stayed for a year.

Several colleagues and staff members from all the studios he worked in said goodbye to the creative and offered condolences to his family.

"I am very saddened by the death of my friend Travis. We worked together on WoW for many years, and he was one of those people who made me feel goofy just being around him," said one of his Blizzard friends.

"My condolences. I recently watched one of Travis' design training videos from his time at Diablo. Although he is no longer with us, his knowledge will continue to teach and inspire people," wrote Adam Jackson, a creative working on Diablo IV.

Truly a great loss for the industry, however, we are sure that his contributions will live forever in all the titles he worked in. Here at Level Up we wish him peace in his final resting place.
