Due to the pandemic, Blizzard was forced to pause its major esports competitions. Fortunately, the tide has changed, and the company has some excellent news for the Overwatch community.

This morning he confirmed that the Overwatch World Cup will return recharged in 2023 after a 3-year absence. The company wants to return in a big way, so it promised interesting news for all players interested in participating. To begin with, he revealed his roadmap for the coming months toward the competition that will start in the fall.

WHAT WILL THE OVERWATCH WORLD CUP 2023 OFFER, AND WHEN WILL IT BE?

The competition will bring together players from 36 countries across all regions in an exciting Overwatch 2 competition. The actual entrants will be announced in January, the same month the Competition Committee will be revealed to organize the local trials to select the players.

Blizzard wants to encourage more fans to participate so that it will offer regular events and a new open tournament format. World Cup Trials will begin in February and reward players with a Team Trials Pass.

“Players will still be able to sign up for the regular tests that will take place in March. Regular Trials will require a Competitive Play rank of Diamond or higher, so aspiring players should start working their way up the competitive ladder now!” the studio explained.

Later, in June, there will be a qualifying stage with the selected teams. This will take place in a regional competition that will be played online. In this way, 16 of the 36 teams will be chosen for the next stage, that will be played sometime in the fall.

The community at large will also be able to enjoy and celebrate the competition, as Blizzard will offer various rewards and challenges throughout 2023.
