As Forspoken prepares to take place among the new games coming in January 2023, Square Enix's top management is preparing for a year of major transformation.

In a message signed by President Yosuke Matsuda, the company makes it known that it plans to move further along the path of reform it began in 2022.

New things are coming

To provide Square Enix with renewed stability last year, the management signed an agreement to sell part of its studios to Embracer Group. As you may recall, the deal also included the rights to major IPs, including Tomb Raider, Deus EX, and Legacy of Kain.

"In the medium and long term," Matsuda now promises, "we will accelerate our efforts to strengthen the company's internal development capabilities. To achieve that goal, Square Enix aims to hire new talent and focus its energies on video games that can have global appeal. With the aim of materializing "one Square Enix," management also aims for greater coordination among the company's different geographic branches.

In case you missed it: Will Starfield be released on April 12?

While waiting to find out what consequences such a company line will have in practice, let us recall that Square Enix's 2023 will also bring with it the launch of Final Fantasy XVI while accelerating the development of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.
