Akira Toriyama worked on countless video games of various genres. One of his most particular works was Tobal No. 1, a fighting game developed by DreamFactory and distributed by Square (now Square Enix) for the first PlayStation.
Toyotaro, Dragon Ball Super mangaka and student of Toriyama, decided to recreate one of the most iconic characters of the title as a tribute to his master. The result will excite Dragon Ball and Tobal No. 1 fans alike.
Toyotaro recreates character from Tobal No. 1 as a tribute to Toriyama
Upon its debut in 1996, Tobal No. 1 caught the attention of many gamers for several reasons. For starters, it was created by DreamFactory, a company founded by Seiichi Ishii, who had worked on Virtua Fighter and TEKKEN.
Likewise, the game aroused the interest of genre enthusiasts for its 3D graphics and collaboration with Square. Of course, the detail that won over many players is that Akira Toriyama was in charge of the art design and character creation.
Toyotaro decided to pay another tribute to his master with a drawing of Chuji Wu, one of the most iconic characters of the fighting game. His design will be familiar to Dragon Ball fans, as it has all of Toriyama's stamp.
"In addition to providing the character designs for this fighting game, Toriyama even helped come up with the setting and with the worldbuilding. I have fond memories of playing this game to the break of dawn with friends back in the day!" Toyotaro commented. Below you can see his version of Chuji Wu.
