Over the past few months, several games-as-a-service have either had catastrophic launches or closed their doors for good after their failure. Because of this, it is thought that these types of games will cease to be the industry trend in favor of single-player titles.

However, a recent account reveals quite the opposite: hundreds of studios will work on these types of productions or are busy maintaining some game as a service. Thus, these titles will remain the strong bet for the vast majority of developers.

Earlier this year, some analysts predicted the decline of games-as-a-service and the free-to-play model in favor of the standard premium model. However, a recent survey confirmed that more than 500 studios are working on live titles.

Griffin Gaming Partners and Rendered VC surveyed 537 developers around the world about the type of project they are working on or have in planning. The results will not excite all gamers, as the big trend is games as a service.

The results showed that 95% of the studios surveyed are currently creating or maintaining a game as a service. This implies that more than 500 studios will bet on a model that involves constant connection and practices such as Battle Passes.

According to the survey, studios see games-as-a-service as a great alternative because of its development cycle. They also believe that live service is very important for a video game to stand out and become a success.
