This week, Take-Two and Rockstar Games confirmed that Red Dead Redemption, the acclaimed open-world game, will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The news excited fans but also generated controversy due to the high price of the port.

The game starring John Marston will cost $49.99 USD on Sony and Nintendo consoles. It's worth noting that it will also include the Undead Nightmare DLC and other additions like new languages.

The announcement sparked a mixed reaction. While many players are happy, others believe the price is too high considering it's a simple port that won't incorporate substantial gameplay and graphical improvements. The community also lamented the absence of a release for PC.

TAKE-TWO DEFENDS THE $50 USD PRICE OF THE RED DEAD REDEMPTION PORT

During an interview with IGN, Strauss Zelnick was asked why the company set the price of the Red Dead Redemption port the way it did, especially when Xbox players can play the original version thanks to backward compatibility.

The CEO and President of Take-Two stated that they consider $49.99 USD to be the "commercially accurate price." We must remember that the Xbox 360 version can be purchased for just $29.99 USD.

Next, Hannah Sage, Executive Vice President of Finance at the company, reminded that the port also includes the Undead Nightmare expansion. Strauss Zelnick continued with that comment and said that the downloadable content “was a great standalone game in its own right when it was originally released, so we feel like it’s a great bundle for the first time, and certainly a great value for consumers”.

The Red Dead Redemption port will be available for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in digital format on August 17th. Physical copies will start circulating from October 13th.
