Square Enix has been very active lately with recent announcements, like the reveal of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. During the Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase, Dragon Quest Treasures, the latest entry in the beloved long-running series, received its first gameplay trailer. Square Enix has followed up this reveal with more gameplay details and screenshots for this title.

Treasures was first announced in May 2021 during a showcase celebrating the franchise's 35th anniversary alongside games like Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate and Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D and it will release on December 9, 2022.

The upcoming game will act as a prequel to Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age, following Erik and his sister Mia during their childhood as referenced in the main game. The gameplay showcased before displayed the capturing and battling of monsters, but new screenshots and information released by Square Enix dive further into mechanics.

Congratulations! You found some treasure!

Players will decide to switch between Erik and Mia at any time, and progression shares between both. Two different spirit guides will join the siblings, a cat spirit known as Purrsula, and a pig known as Porcus. We will also be able to travel the world using the monsters and utilize them to look for treasures, similar to Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
