While the standard edition of Rockstar Games’ open-world game is priced at $80, a select group of players will be able to grab it on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S for significantly less by fulfilling just one requirement.

The promotion is being run by major US retail chain Target through its Circle Students program. Gamers on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S who can verify their active student status with official documentation from an educational institution will receive a 20% discount on the base edition of GTA VI. That brings the final price down to $64, which is a compelling offer for a AAA blockbuster that is also one of the most anticipated releases in years.

Those who take advantage of the deal will not only secure their copy at a reduced cost but also retain access to all standard pre-order bonuses. Notably, no subscription fee or additional purchase is required to unlock the discount since there is no catch attached. However, the offer is exclusive to Target U.S and it applies solely to the standard edition, meaning the Ultimate Edition doesn’t have a discount.

Some Players Have Been Able to Get a Free Copy of GTA VI

For months, the speculation was that the game might exceed the $100 mark, but Rockstar ultimately settled on a more approachable price. That hasn’t stopped fans from hunting down every possible saving and a few players have succeeded in getting the game for free.

The method in question is Microsoft Rewards, a loyalty program that allows users to accumulate points redeemable for various perks, including Xbox store gift cards.

Dedicated participants have been amassing points for months, and estimates suggest that roughly 90,000 points are sufficient to claim the Ultimate Edition for free.
